Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that choosing a pod for your home or business is a big decision.

In this section we will outline some of the most common questions you may have about ordering a pod with us.

How much does a Pod cost?

The price of our Pods starts at €14,986 (ex VAT) for our 3 x 3.6 meter and go up to €65,674 for our large 1 bedroom Pod. Each Pod is custom built for your needs so the price will vary depending on the size you want and the extras you would like to have (storage space, bathrooms etc.)

The prices you see on our website reflect our Turnkey Finish. This means everything from the initial consultation, the build and design of your Pod, delivery, crane on site and connecting power from your house to the Pod is all included in the price.

How long from order to delivery?

On average it takes 8-12 weeks from the time you pay the first instalment. This will allow time to order windows, doors and timber for your build. However, the time can vary depending on the size and specific requirements of your Pod.  For example, if you order a large apartment, construction time may be longer. Installation usually takes 2-3 working days, again this can vary depending on the size etc.

Do I need to get Planning Permission for my Pod?

If your Garden Pod is 25 sqm or under you do not need planning permission. Although, any structure you intend to live in requires planning permission. For extensions, you can add up to 40 sqm onto your existing house without planning.

Can Pods be used as an office?

Yes, garden pods are ideal for offices and many of our customer have gone for this option. Having your office detached from your home means no more distractions, allowing you to focus on a hard day’s work. Our Pods are also fully insulated meaning you can enjoy greater work life balance all year round.

Do I have to lay my own foundations?

No, all our prices include groundwork.

We do ask that the site is clear of existing structures and trees or hedges cut down to ground level.

If you already have foundations, then we are happy to take the ground work cost off the initial price once the Construction Team deems your ground works suitable. All this will be discussed during a site visit.

Can my Pod be attached to my house as an extension?

Yes, we have completed many extensions in the past which are attached to an existing dwelling. Our pod extensions are a lot cheaper than traditional bricks and mortar and are fitted with extra insulation. If you would like further information or to discuss an extension build, book a free consultation with one of our team members, we would love to hear your vision.

What type of insulation do you use?

The wall build-up of our standard Pod’s is 100ml Earth Wool on the walls and ceiling, with 100ml Kingspan on the floor.

Our apartments use the same build up but with an additional 50ml insulated board on the wall and roof along with an air tightness membrane which gives a U-VALUE of .20.

You also have the option of upgrading to SIP panels which will then give you a U-VALUE of .16.

Will my Pod withstand the long Irish winters?

Our Pods are well able to withstand the Irish weather. We build all our Pods on a custom-built steel base, so no timber is touching the ground, and they are fitted with a 6mm board to protect the underneath of the Pod.

All our Pods have ventilation with bracing ply on the walls. We also have a 40mm cavity between our wall structure and exterior cladding which allows moisture to escape.

What type of flooring do you use?

Our standard Pods all come with laminate flooring. Laminate can weather high traffic with minimal damage and offers UV resistance. It does not scratch or discolour as easily as hardwood floors. We offer a range of colours to suit your vision for your custom Pod.

Laminate flooring is made of layers. The primary layer (the core) is made of high-density fibreboard that gives laminate flooring its rigidity and strength.

There is an option to upgrade to an LVT floor (Luxury Vinyl Tile), a product that looks like real wood and looks like a standard laminate floor.

LVT is made in layers as well; Its primary component is PVC vinyl, which makes LVT dimensionally stable and flexible. Thanks to its multiple layers including a Durable Wear Layer and Rigid Core, Luxury Vinyl can withstand moisture, heavy foot traffic, scratches, and spills.  Not only is its Top Wear Layer waterproof, but the backing layer also protects the underside of your floors from moisture. This means you have a seamless wooden floor look running throughout the pod.

We are happy to discuss all the upgrade options with you to customise your pod. All our flooring is sourced locally at ‘Kildare interiors’.

How is my Pod heated?

For our standard Pods (i.e. ones that do not contain a bathroom or kitchen) we use Rointe Kyros electric radiators.

If you decide to purchase a Pod which requires heated water, for example, if you have a shower, kitchen or handbasin we install a Gas Combi Boiler. A Combi Boiler is a type of boiler which can provide both hot water and central heating in the same system. The advantages of a Combi Boiler are down to its size, efficiency, and ability to provide hot water on demand.

How do I keep my Pod cool during the Summer months?

We ensure our Pods are well ventilated. The windows we fit have an opening to allow air flow. We offer an upgraded option of an air conditioning unit, so your Pod is kept cool in summer and warm in winter. Ask our team members about our upgrade options, we would love to help.

A 1.2 UV glass rating is standard as all our glass is A rated, shatterproof and comes with Argon Gas as standard.  All our windows and doors come in a standard grey finish, but you can request any colour in your order.

What types of exterior cladding is available?

Our standard Pods come with the option of two walls in Cedar, Spruce, Durwood, Charred Larch or Composite. We also offer an acrylic render option which can be matched to an existing house if needed. This option is especially handy for the extension builds. You can discuss with our design team the finish that works best for you.

What maintenance is required on the wood cladding?

We encourage people to oil the wood once a year, so the timber is protected against UV bleaching. If you are beside the sea you may have to oil the wood twice a year. We recommend using OSMO oil.

Do your prices include plumbing?

Your bathroom/kitchen will come fully fitted out and ready to be plumbed when it is dropped into your garden. In most cases we can connect the pod to your sewer line, however there are times when a 3rd party is required to plumb the space. Again, this will all be discussed on a site visit.

I need the contractors to view my site to see if the job is possible as I live in an area with awkward access and the quality of our ground is weak. I would like a professional assessment; how do I go about booking this?

No problem. Many of our clients live in rural areas with small country roads or densely populated towns/cities. Many of our clients also need additional groundwork as the land may be very boggy. Before we visit your site, we send you a questionnaire. With the information you provide the team, we will determine if further investigation of the site is needed and if a 3rd party will need to be involved.  If you would like a site assessment, chat to one of our team members today, we are happy to help.
